What happened#

On October 20, 2026, Georgetown announced a $10 million gift from Daniel (C'86) and Mara O'Day that creates the O'Day Family Scholarship Fund. The fund will cover the full cost of attendance for two first-generation students admitted to each incoming undergraduate class, and the first O'Day Scholar already started at Georgetown this fall.

What we do not know yet#

We do not know how Georgetown selects O'Day Scholars beyond requiring first-generation status, whether there is a separate application for this specific award, or whether any family income limit applies.

What it means for a student#

If your student is a first-generation applicant to Georgetown, make that status clear on the application and financial aid forms, and ask the financial aid office directly whether this scholarship requires anything beyond the regular admission and aid process.
