What happened#
On August 3, 2026, College Board announced that Virginia schools will offer SAT School Day in the 2026-27 school year under a new state law. In the release's words, "HB 410 requires Virginia school districts to offer the SAT to juniors at their own school, during the school day, during the fall or spring testing windows."
Governor Spanberger signed the bill on April 8, 2026. It took effect on July 1, 2026.
What it means for a student#
If you are a junior in a Virginia public school, you should get a chance to take the SAT at your own school this year, without a Saturday or a drive to a test center. Ask your counselor which window your district picked, fall or spring.
The law says districts must offer the test. It does not say you must send the score anywhere. Whether a college sees it is still your call, college by college.
If you are a senior, the requirement is written for juniors. Ask your school whether its School Day test is open to seniors too.
